Are you getting lots of scam emails even in some of your well cared email accounts? Aren’t you surprised sometimes thinking how these websites or services getting your email addresses, sometimes the exact working emails?
Unsubscribe link – brings trouble:
Yes, search engine marketing and the worst advertising ideas use different techniques to get the working – active emails. A few days before I got a phishing mail to one of my banking emails. I was surprised thinking how these sites’ got the exact email which I’m using for my online banking. (J I was not shocked because the project I’ve done for my graduation was about intelligent phishing. So I can easily find out the scams and phishing mails). The same thing happened to another transaction email again after one day. Actually I treat these email accounts very carefully as all of my transactions including my online banking accounts, PayPal etc are attached with these ids. So I always try to keep them clean and not spammy. Whenever I get some ads or such mails, the next moment I used to unsubscribe my email from their services.
Then what could be the reason behind getting lots of emails? To check this I have created two other accounts and started using them. Whenever some services send Advertisements (or spam emails some times) I unsubscribed the services in one of the email and did nothing with the other id. For my surprise the email where I unsubscribed the emails started getting lots of emails after then. The email with which I did nothing with the spams didn’t get more number of emails.
Conclusion:
This is the latest technique by spammers; even phishing websites use the same technique. If you unsubscribe the newsletters or service ads they will come to know that those email ids are active. And some companies are using newsletters just for the sake of finding active email addresses. So whenever you unsubscribe an email or newsletter do remember that you may be sending them information that your email account is active. This may bring more troubles to you. Though many sites are not scams, don’t fall to this trick by clicking the bottom “unsubscribe” link.
Solution:
The only thing you can do is using filters. All of the leading email services are having email filters. Check your inbox and if you find some services which are troubling you just use your email filters. This will do better and this is the best treatment.
